Sean King and Michelle Maxwell aren't just any private investigators. They're former Secret Service Agents who were disgraced because of their failed assignments. They have a successful firm and start doing work with the FBI despite FBI Agent Rigby's hate for them. While working cases, Sean gets pulled into a conspiracy on his last assignment as a Secret Service Agent that ended his career.

A surprise call from Agent Rigby brings King and Maxwell on board to solve the kidnapping case of a thirteen-year-old boy. With this case, King is also reintroduced to Joan Dillinger, a person from King's Secret Service past. Joan was the hostage negotiator in this kidnapping case. Separately, Edgar shares new information on the shooting of Senator Ritter (who was a presidential candidate) that led to Sean King's termination from the Secret Service.
